How I drew my Bjork 'Alarm Call' picture
This is a simple step-by-step tutorial describing some of the tricks I use in CorelDraw and Photoshop and also when scanning artwork.
Creation time: A few hours or so.
I was sketching a drawing of an eye and I noticed it looked a bit like a bird. I refined the idea on paper then scanned it into the computer. I imported the pencil drawing into Adobe Illustrator as a background layer template, this helped guide me when creating the blended vector shapes on top. I played around with the colours for quite a while and ended up with a yellow eye because it was more bird-like.
I'm slowly learning Illustrator - it's so different to Corel Draw (which I've used for many years) but some things (like layers) are similar to Photoshop which I absolutely love. I'm really happy with the end result.
This morning was one of the first noticeably cold days of Autumn. I stood in the backyard with my eyes closed soaking up the sun. This is what I saw.
Medium: Graphite pencil / digital.
Creation time: About an hour.
I was feeling angry and frustrated so I took it out on a piece of paper and drew this... I felt so much better afterwards!
It was drawn with graphite pencil then darkened after scanning. I added all the colour with Photoshop in a really rough, quick scribbly way.
This is one of my smallest vector images ever! Only 3k =) It's a picture of Crystal that I used for the front page of my website a few versions ago.
I used this Flash picture on the front page of a previous version of this website. It's based on a pencil drawing that has much more detail.
Vectors are amazing because you can keep the file size down to almost nothing and still do amazing things. This vector image was only 12kb.
I drew this Mazda MX5 originally for a project for Strathfield Car Radios, but it was never used.
Crystal the Doll is one of my favourite characters.
Medium: CorelDraw, Flash.
This is the bay where Ogga and James live!
I drew this for a firearms website I built a long time ago.
I don't like guns so I doubt I will ever draw something like this again.
It's Oh So Quiet - I really like the way the background turned out on this one. It wasn't rendered - I just drew it with vectors in CorelDraw.
A coloured drawing of the bugs in my Ogga the Cane Toad comic strip. I love drawing the bugs because they're so simple and cute!
Over the fence from James' place you can see this view. If the waves are pumping then chances are Ogga and James are out there surfing!!
This is a mock up CD cover that I drew for Bjork's song 'Hunter' just for fun. The flowers were painted by hand.

This is Lyndal the flower girl - part human and part plant. Her hair turns into flowers!
I first drew this picture in pencil then inked it with black felt tip pen. Next, I scanned it in black and white and turned it into a vector drawing with CorelTrace. All the colours were added in CorelDraw.

This is AstroBjork; a cross between Astro Boy and Bjork. The character was inspired from the Beautiful 3D rendering on her 'Army of Me' single cover that was created by Me Co.

This was my first drawing of Crystal the Doll. I much prefer the latest version from the front page of my last website but this old one still has something nice about it!
This was the original Crystal picture with her whole body. She is just a doll with sharp curved blades for hands... Ouch!
This artwork was inspired by Bjork's song 'Big time sensuality' and I drew it in the comic book style of the artist Roy Lichenstein.
